⚠️ WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including: lead which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

The warning listed on our website is in accordance with a law implemented by the state of California called Proposition-65. Under this regulation, California law requires businesses to provide warnings for products containing chemicals that the state of California has identified as carcinogens or reproductive toxins. Recent amendments to this law require any retailers selling to California residents to list this warning on their website.

There are currently almost 1,000 substances on the Proposition-65 list, ranging from cigarette smoke and asbestos to aspirin and wood dust. One of the materials listed is lead, and because most light fixtures contain brass in the sockets or in the frames of the shades, we are required to put this warning label on our light fixtures. Brass is a metal alloy consisting of copper, zinc and small amounts of lead, which is what triggers the “lead” warning under California Proposition-65 since lead has been shown to cause cancer when it is ingested.

We hope that this explains things a little more clearly. If you have any additional questions, we would suggest visiting the website mentioned above for more information and the complete list of substances that require warnings under Proposition-65.

    Too hard to clean

I bought this light and I love the look of it! However, it is way to difficult to clean it thoroughly. Maybe there is a trick someone knows that I couldn’t figure out?

The “Star” of our new pantry

I searched the Internet for a Moravian Star pendant for our kitchen renovation. There were several sites but the customer reviews were negative. Comments repeatedly stated that the fixture was not well made, it seemed “tinny”, it failed at the connection point at the top of the star, that the light was difficult to hang, and all of the customer submitted photographs revealed very unappealing stars. This “cheap” image was the reflected in each websites images of the fixtures as well. The photograph on Shades of Light’s website was very flattering, which made me wonder if they had a really excellent photographer or if the product was actually that well-made and attractive. So I took the chance and placed the order. The fixture arrived securely in double carton packaging with two garbage can bags worth of packing peanuts surrounding the star. The light had good weight and was extremely well made. It proved that it wasn’t solely a flattering photograph - this Star was truly stunning. It was hard to wait for the kitchen and pantry to be complete so it could be hung. It is the perfect final touch to our new pantry. Everyone notices and complements us on our good taste. Thank you Shades of Light!!

    Placement of Moravian star light.

This light was installed in a lantern roof. It hangs about 12 feet above the floor in the center of a square structure which sits above the roof of an addition, and resembles a large cupola. The “lantern” portion contains 8 windows - four on each side. The lamp looks great from the street at night. It complements the lamp (a nautical style) in the cupola on top of my pool house.
